COACHING
INITIATIVE
Fancy some
hockey action? - Get involved in Kent's new hockey initiative starting
in September 2008!
:
Kent Hockey Association proudly launches 5
brand new Junior Development Centres across Kent
What's it all about?
Following England Hockey's 'Single System' initiative to deliver
consistent coaching to young players throughout the country, Kent
Hockey are delighted to announce 5 new Development Centres across the
county where young players can access top class coaching to develop
their skills and learn a new sport!
Following an assessment session 25 young players at each Centre will
be selected to take part in a 12 week programme which will give them
the best opportunity to gain further selection to the Junior Academy
in January 2009!
Who's it for?
The first year kicks off for U12 (born in any month of
1997) and U13 (born in any month of 1996) girls and boys. Each year
another age group will be added so in September 2009 U14's will begin,
U15's in 2010, U16's in 2011 and U17's in 2012.
No previous experience is necessary, the assessment session is
designed to allow both experienced players and complete beginners to
shine!
After the assessment session coaches will select 25 players to take
part in the 12 week programme of development training from September
through to December. Players not selected can still access top
coaching at local clubs and advice and support will be available at
the Centres for players who aren't already at a club.
When and where is it
happening?
The assessment sessions are taking place
on September 14th 2008.
The Centres and times for each age group sessions are:

at Polo Farm Sports Club, Canterbury

U13 Girls 3.30 - 6.00pm at Tonbridge School Astro
U12 Boys 1.30 - 4.00pm at Hollybush Lane Astro, Sevenoaks
U13 Boys 3.30 - 6.00pm at Hollybush Lane Astro, Sevenoaks
How much does it
cost?
The assessment session is absolutely FREE!
Following this session, coaches at each Centre will select a group of
25 players to develop their skills on a 12-week programme between
September and December. The cost of this course will then be £70.00
per player for the 12 weeks which also includes some competition days.
What next?
By the end of the development programme coaches will put forward U13
age group players they have continually assessed over the 12 weeks for
selection to the U13 Junior Academy in January. The Academy will
effectively become the county squad for fixtures against other
counties. The Academy programme will run from January - April and will
be hosted at the Mid Kent Centre in Maidstone.
There isn't an Academy for the U12 age group so these players, along
with those not selected for the JAC, will continue with their Junior
Club Hockey. Any player not at a club will be offered support and
advice about their local club if they wish to join one.
Ok, so how do I get a

COACHES ASSOCIATION
Kent
Hockey Association has for a number of years wanted to set up a
Coaching Association for the benefit of coaches working in Kent. Among
other things this would help to provide the courses required by
coaches in the County and to set up a procedure for the completion of
CRBs. The
EH Single System has made such an Association essential.
To ensure that this System works for the benefit of young players in
Kent we need to know how many coaches we have, active and not active,
qualified and unqualified, in the County, and how many wish to become
involved in coaching in this initiative, which will provide an
excellent platform for those wanting to develop a ‘career’ pathway
in hockey coaching. The Coaching Association will also provide an
excellent system for our young players to thrive in, give easy access
for dealing with the paperwork to gain CRB clearance and help in
gaining qualifications by making courses available to our members.
Some
of you may be happy to continue coaching purely in your clubs and some
may wish to become actively involved with the new System. Whichever, I
hope that you will join our newly formed Coaching Association. See NEWSLETTER
for Membership form. These have also been sent to Clubs, or can be obtained directly
from me, lbant@ellingtonsg.co.uk.
Please return the form to me as soon as possible. We go live with
U13/12 centres this autumn for the Single System and are looking to
recruit coaches.

NEW
SPORTS CHANNEL ON
KENT TV
KentTV.com
is launching a new platform for all sports organisations in the county
to show off their talents and tell the people of
Kent
about themselves. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity
to get your club’s news and sporting action up onto the new
broadband TV community channel launched by Bob Geldof in September
2007 (It’s all totally free by the way!).
The idea is very simple. Think of us as the county’s digital
notice board. If you want to film your team or sport and allow the
rest of the club – and the rest of the county – to see you
in action, this is the way to do it. In the New Year we are launching
a new channel dedicated to local sports which is why we are reaching
out now to
Kent
’s sports clubs, organisations and teams.
We want to show your videos of
Kent
teams or individuals in action: anything from a full length version of
a match or race to a short highlights compilation.
Why not share with
Kent
your best goal of the match? Why not get viewers to help you
decide the Man or Woman of the Tournament? In short, we are
interested in anything you are interested in,
whether that be young or old, sport for disabled people or
non-disabled people, good, bad or just plain extraordinary.
If you’re interested in being involved in becoming part of a
wider Kent sports community, then ring us on 01622 626 730 or better
still, send us your films and videos (in any format) to info@KentTV.com
or by post to;
